The primary goal was to build an all-in-one event management application that handles all phases of event planning, attendee management, budget management application, task management, etc, and streamlines all processes involved and simplifies their worklflow.
- Boosting the brand reach/promotion.
- Improving attendee engagement.
- Enabling Networking
- Measuring event performance
- Efficiently manage event activities
I was the sole designer on the project and I worked very closely with product manager and the mobile tech teams to brainstorm ideas and to understand the constraints and limitations in code.

Knowing what to research is just as important as conducting research. Our main research objective was to uncover and address how we can help the user's concerns and problems that they encounter and how can we build an app that helps them manage, keep track, co-ordinate efficiently.
The objectives I outlined for the user research are :-
1. To gather insights and knowledge about their domain.
2. To understand how they accomplish task related to their domain.
3. What processes and tools they use.
4. What are the challenging parts of their job.
5. Things they wish they could be easier or different.
6. How they work and collaborate together.
7. Understand their event planning process.
8. Uncover their goals and motivation, frustrations and challenges
I conducted a semi-structured interviews with 3 participants, the same participants who will soon be the very users of the event management software we are trying to build. Ideally, I would have liked to interview at least five participants to start off with, then analyze data to see if there are no new patterns or insights emerging, and interview 5 more until I reach saturation.
I prepared an interview guide with the following questions :
1. Tell me about yourself.
2. What does a typical workday look like for you ?
3. Can you walk me through the process of event planning ?
4. What tools do you use ?
5. Can you tell me a little bit about how the team works together ?
6. What are some of the challenging aspects of your wok ?
7. What motivated you to become an event planner ?
8. What type of qualities must one possess for this job ?
9. If there is one thing you could change, what would it be ?
10. Is there anything else you'd like to add ?
I also asked follow-up questions whenever I felt I could use some more clarity or if I wanted to uncover more insights.

Based on the data gathered through the interviews I conducted, I created a qualitative user persona. I created a fictional character called Eve and listed out some of her goals, motivations, behaviors and frustrations to help tell the story about Eve.

To help synthesize observations about users and draw insights, I created an empathy map and chalked out some of their attitudinal data like feelings, thoughts and behaviors. I have always found empathy mapping to be an efficient visual tool to get a better understanding of users.

I researched some of the top market players like EventBrite, Cvent, Aventri, Active Network, Bizzabo, Eventmobi, Eventzilla, Hopin, Meeting Evolution, Rainfocus and Ragpack.

User journey map is a visual representation of user story at every underlying steps that users need to takr to achieve their goal. They are meant for uncovering hidden challenges and possible areas of improvement within a system and optimizing their experiences.
